What is the difference between a 20-year-old today and back when I was 20 years old? I have come to the conclusion that there is no difference. When I was 20 I accomplished things the way I learned how, and 20-year-olds today accomplish things the way they learned how. As long as I can remember I have heard from parents that they did not want their children to go through what they went through. And now we say we want our children to have what we did not have. Most children today can find information and a way of solving problems without thinking. Can build things with instructions and how-to kits instead of creating something from nothing. Interact physically and mentally with each other by pressing buttons instead of using their imagination. Today we give power to those that make money instead of those that use their intelligence. We only want relationships with those that look like we want them to look and are who we want them to be, instead of the essence of what and who they really are.
So I have decided to stop beating myself up for wanting to think, be creative, use my imagination and love unconditionally. I like who and what I am. I enjoy watching kids being inquisitive and adults having memories of being a kid. I enjoy embracing wisdom and sharing it with others. I enjoy having my own signature and expressing who I am right where I am today. I look forward to meeting those that are not like me so I will continue learning. I like the world that I chose to be in with all it is and all it gives me.
What if we can go through life without fear, ego, jealousy, insecurity, hatred, bigotry and anger? Instead, focus on love, compassion, kindness, respect and awareness? We might just teach someone at 20 the wisdom to have fun with those in their 60's. And those in our 60's the ability to communicate and play better with those in their 20's. Wouldn't that just be kind of nice!
